Twi is the predominant language of the African republic of Ghana (although that country's official language is English) and is part of the Akan language group. Twi, along with the closely-related Fanti, is spoken by about 6 million people in the forested area west of the Volta river, especially in and around Accra, the Ghanaian capital.
