ModCon Technical Details

The ModCon PCB contains everything to build professional microcontroller applications. Shown in the photo above:

Reset Circuit - The reset button is shown at the top left. Just to the right of the crystal near the reset button is where the reset circuit is located. Both of the popular reset chips, the MC34064 and DS1233 are supported.

The Bus A and Bus B connectors provide nearly all HC11 pins on a stackable bus structure. The pin arrangement is compatible with the EVBU development systems by making a split adapter cable. Extra pins are provided for end user applications.

The SCI connector is used for RS-232 communication (via our RS-232 kit, included with our package deals). This connector is also used for MIDI communications through our MIDI Gizmo product.

The ModCon's 14-pin SPI connector allows for additional expansion by including extra control lines to make interfacing easier. Included on this connector are Reset, XIRQ, IRQ, OC4 and OC5 as well as two spare connections.

The ModCon includes four servo motor connections. As shipped, the ModCon is configured for use with Airtronics type servo connectors. The Futaba standard is also supported with a simple modification.

The ModCon's first two configuration switches control the HC11's operation mode (normal/special and single/multi-chip). The two switches on the right control XIRQ and PE0, supporting the Buffalo Monitor or other functions.

Either our 32K RAM or user EPROM chips can be used with the ModCon.

The power connector's center two pins supply power to the ModCon. By cutting a bow tie, pin 3 becomes RAM power, while pin 2 supplies power to the rest of the ModCon. This makes use with battery supplies for the RAM easier.
