We were all loaded up to go to Cape Coast, and I forgot to bring some drum sticks. Emmanuel was outside to see us off, and I asked him if he can run and see if mine were there. He comes running back a few minutes later with fresh ones he ran off and cut and stripped!
We stopped in Accra, for ATM & snacks on way to Cape Coast. It took about 2.5 hours to get to Accra (near the ocean), then another 5 to get to Cape Coast. Along the coast it's a lot bumpier. In Accra, Twi is spoken as well as English. Medasi is thank you; maha is a general greeting.
In different places on the roads there, you have to go through police stops. One reason is that they can more easily check for valid registration since they can't afford having a large police force. With us (a trotro full of white people), they usually peered into the windows or just waved us through.
We got a particularly cranky (or greedy) cop on this trip. Kept us waiting for about 1/2 hour. It's normal to give them a bribe of 5,000 Cedis (about 65 cents US), but this time it apparently took a bit more. Anyway, were back on the road after some nice Fan Ice cream (some sort of franchise of bicycles with coolers mounted on it.
We finally made it to the beautiful resort Anomabo Resort (Anomabo@hotmail.com). After this much experience on the road, and seeing the resort, our faithful leaders immediately decided that we'll stay there for 3 nights, instead of driving further to the other castles. We all wholeheartedly agreed.
A few adjustments. Seeing a mirror for the first time in a week, and a real, porcelain commode! George, Bob and I did a bit of Frisbee with the sand in our toes. Careful of the trees, as coconuts do fall from the trees from time to time.
We took 6 of the drums with us and some of the shakeres. We hauled them all to the seats on the beach and had a nice jam. The brease feels so good.
