Emmanuel and I rode the bikes to to Vakpo while everyone else got in the trotro, so we could all see Michael's tree house project, and the carver he wanted us to see. So far what he has is a platform, about 50 feet up with a rope ladder to the ground. Then another rope ladder going about 50 feet more. Only a couple people can be up there at a time, so only a few of us went. I wasn't among them.
We were given a typed program for the cerimony. We were mostly concerned about number six - our big test! We managed it ok, so I think we passed.
Departure ceremony: 1 Arrival at high priests house 2 Opening prayer 3 Display by Mr Nkani 4 Speech from host C.K. Kwani 5 Drum and dance 6 Entertainment by visitors 7 Akpene choir 8 Church sisters 9 Display by culture group 10 Speech by visitors 11 Vote of thanks 12 Closing prayer |
The closing cerimony was definately a moving experience. It suddenly hit me that we would not be in the company of all these fine people for much longer. Would I be missed if I didn't get on the plane?
Here is the song they were singing. One of our group gave Dzekepuli some of the words, and he wrote the melody. The Akpene Song
There were fine performances by just about everyone. The Akpene Choir was a big surprise for me. One of "us" wrote the words, and Dzekepuli create the melody. Everyone had a lot of fun with that one.
Our kente cloth arrives, and Mama Stella has been very busy arranging getting it for us. We all very much are grateful to her for her effort! Then the tailor arrived with more goodies! Our custom made cloths we ordered before we left for Cape Coast.
